Apparently, Pete Hegseth doesn’t get why Rob Porter‘s domestic violence scandal is still a big deal for the White House.

The Fox & Friends weekend host was today’s #OneLuckyGuy on Outnumbered, and Harris Faulkner asked him about the Porter controversy now that the Trump Administration has been bogged down by the same controversy for over a week. Hegseth said the Porter matter wasn’t handled very well and he made clear that he wasn’t going to defend the ousted White House senior aide or anyone involved in domestic abuse, but then… well, here’s what he said:

“Did Rob Porter not get fired? Did the White House not take action? He doesn’t work there anymore, does he? Ultimately, the consequences came down the pipe. Why are we still talking about this eight days later?”

Hegseth went to call it a “processed” story that Washington is “obsessed with” and the rest of America doesn’t care about compared to other issues. Trish Regan backed him up by saying the commotion is a “giant distraction” from “far more important” things.

Since Hegseth hasn’t a clue why the Porter story is still worth discussing, why don’t we have a little review?

At least three women allege that Porter abused them throughout their relationships with him, and Kelly spoke positively about Porter even though there are

serious questions about what he knew and when he knew it. President Trump wished Porter well when he left the White House last week, and the president diminished the women accusing Porter of domestic violence with his last public statement on the matter.

The White House press office has been fielding questions about this over the last few days, insisting that they were not aware of the allegations that came up during Porter’s background check. FBI Director Chris Wray blew a hole in this notion, however, when he contradicted the Administration’s timeline regarding the build-up to the scandal.

Oh, and Congressman Trey Gowdy says that the matter is now being investigated by the House Oversight Committee, so there’s that.
