Fox News’s Chris Stirewalt: If You’re Defending Pruitt Amid Ethics Scandal, Then ‘You Are The Swamp’

Fox News politics editor Chris Stirewalt threw some shade towards those who are defending the scandal-plagued EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt.

As more and more questions are raised about the spending that has occurred under his watch, Pruitt’s future in the Trump administration is uncertain. But despite the White House refusing to weigh in on Pruitt’s timeline, some conservatives have defended the most arguably effective cabinet member including Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY).

Well, Stirewalt spoke bluntly about Pruitt’s defenders.

“If that’s your standard for ethics, then you are the swamp,” Stirewalt said. “If your standard for ethics are ‘I like the things that he does, therefore I don’t care about the ethics,’ if that’s where you are, then you’re the triple swamp. You are all of the swamp.”

After Fox News anchor Shannon Bream specifically referred to Rand Paul’s defense that Pruitt is draining the “regulatory swamp,” Stirewalt then posed the question of what the GOP senator would think if President Obama‘s EPA administrator was accused of similar allegations.

“They get tangled up in their underwear over this stuff all the time. There’s no question about it. There’s innocent mistakes. There are real mistakes,” Stirewalt continued. “What you have with Pruitt now is this pattern of behavior where you have the ‘Where did the raise come from? I don’t know where the raise came from. Well, maybe you did know where the raise-‘ too many versions of the same story too many different times. It doesn’t matter how good he is at his job if he is an ethical breach. That is just the fact. And people who make it situational are the swamp.”
