Fox’s Bartiromo Presses Dem Rep. on Omar: If ‘You’re Trashing Israel’, You Shouldn’t Be on Foreign Affairs Committee
Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo questioned Rep. Ted Deutch (D-FL) over the stalled effort to condemn anti-Semitism in light of comments from his colleague Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) that have drawn outrage.
Bartiromo asked Deutsch, who serves on the Foreign Affairs Committee with Omar if he wants her to step down from the committee in light of her comments that powerful supporters of Israel in the U.S. support “allegiance to a foreign country.”
“I want a very strong condemnation of anti-Semitism to pass in the House today,” Deutsch told Fox Business. “The fact is that using anti-Semitic tropes like the dual loyalty charge, which I take so personally, both as a member of Congress and the son of a World War II veteran, that language is unacceptable and must be condemned.”
“How come this keeps getting delayed?” Bartiromo asked.
Deutsch replied, “there is no time to waste, I agree with you, it should be condemned right away.”
“Why not just relieve her of this committee assignment?” Bartiromo pressed, pointing out that Republican Congressman Steve King of Iowa was booted from his committees after he apparently defended white supremacy.
“If you’re on the Foreign Affairs Committee, and you’re trashing Israel, obviously the first thing is to step off of Foreign Affairs because obviously, you can’t be fair,” Bartiromo said.
“When you’re using anti-Semitic tropes that have done such damage to the Jewish community throughout our history, the first thing, respectfully, is we condemn the use of that language so it stops,” Deutsch replied.
“I think we’re agreeing with each other,” Bartiromo said. “I’m wondering why you’re not going the extra step and getting her off of foreign affairs, congressman.”
“Right now, let’s do this, tomorrow we’ll have conversations about foreign policy,” he said.
