Fox’s Bob Beckel Undergoes Addiction Rehab
Over the past several months, Mediaite has produced a handful of posts asking the question: Where is Fox’s The Five co-host Bob Beckel? He was last seen on-air on Monday, February 16, and for many weeks we received immense search traffic from readers looking to find out the liberal pundit’s whereabouts.
In our first report, we noted that Fox told us Beckel was out receiving and recovering from back surgery. However, our own sources at the network indicated there was more to the story, including possible addiction (as cable watchers know well, Beckel is open about his drug history). And now Fox confirms that there is, indeed, an addiction therapy element to the story after all.
“Bob Beckel has entered a rehab facility for treatment of an addiction to prescription pain medication,” reads the network’s statement on Thursday afternoon. “His relapse developed over the last several months as he tried to cope with extensive back pain before and after he underwent major back surgery. We hope our viewers and the public will respect Bob’s privacy during this difficult time.”
His co-host Greg Gutfeld had previously confirmed on-air that there was a “major back surgery.” As with Fox anchor Gregg Jarrett‘s treatment for alcoholism last year, Beckel’s employment status remains unchanged. If and when he returns to the air, Mediaite will have coverage.
