Fox’s Bolling: Did the Media ‘Push Obama’ to Get Tough on ISIS?

Last night, O’Reilly Factor guest host Eric Bolling looked at the media coverage of ISIS and asked Howard Kurtz and Lauren Ashburn, “Was it the media that pushed Obama into a firmer stand with ISIS?”

Both of them agreed, with Kurtz remarking that the media coverage of the beheadings of two American journalists “amounted to beating the war drums.” Bolling wondered whether the media wants to see America at war, which Kurtz thought was an unfair charge.

He said it’s far too cynical to think journalists want war for ratings. Ashburn said while that’s not exactly the case, there is an understanding in the news media that showing graphic and horrible pictures will draw in more viewers and “that translated into advertising dollars.”

Both Kurtz and Ashburn did agree that the media went too far in running footage and still images from the video of the beheadings of James Foley and Steven Sotloff. Kurtz said, “We were doing the terrorists’ bidding by spreading fear.”
