Fox’s Cavuto Goes to Town on GOPers Caving to Trump: They Sit Silent, No Matter How Much it ‘Demeans’ Them

Fox News’ Neil Cavuto was candid with his viewers Wednesday afternoon, slamming Republicans for caving to President Donald Trump even after he walked all over their principles and colleagues. Some of those GOP actors include White House aide Kellyanne Conway, Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC), former House Speaker Paul Ryan, and former Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

“The president calls George Conway a ‘whack job’ and a ‘stone-cold loser’ and his wife just lets it go,” said Cavuto. “Calls the late John McCain even worse things, yet his old Senate pals largely let it ride.”

Cavuto said he’s not talking about people like Senator Johnny Isakson (R-GA), who stand up for themselves, but those closer to Trump’s inner circle who allow him to do whatever he wants to their close friends and colleagues because they don’t want to fight with him. That includes former Speaker Ryan, who sat back while Trump ripped him for not going after Democrats enough, and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who quietly let Trump bash him for not doing more to end the Senate filibuster.

“Maybe these guys figure it is really not worth the fight. Maybe they calculate you rip him back, he will just rip you to shreds; rarely in person, more coldly, more consistently, via tweet,” said Cavuto, nodding to the time former State Secretary Rex Tillerson found out he lost his job through Twitter, and how Mike Pompeo timidly jokes that the same will happen to him.

Cavuto compared the Republican response to Trump to the abusive relationship between spouses who won’t defend themselves in order to avoid conflict. He added Republicans’ usual response has become “no response,” and their silence has become “deafening.”

“Just ask Jeff Sessions, a punching bag while in office, until he ultimately lost his office,” said Cavuto. “A lot of these guys just swallow their pride and keep taking the hits, hoping the machine gun threatening fire out of the White House will find another target.”

Cavuto said the are probably making the calculation to be silent “no matter how much it hurts you or demeans you, or makes average folks wonder whether there is any backbone to you.”
