Fox’s Gutfeld: Being ‘Hero in the Transgender Community’ Helped Manning Get Commutation

Fox’s Greg Gutfeld wondered today whether someone in Chelsea Manning‘s situation who was not transgender would have gotten their sentence commuted.

Gutfeld said the two big factors that contributed to today’s big news were 1) Manning leaking “incredible information” about what the U.S. was doing, and 2) Manning became “a hero in the transgender community.”

And he posed this question:

“If this were just an average guy that had leaked this stuff and just went to jail as an average guy and didn’t go and have a sex change and become a sympathetic character, would that person be treated differently? I think that person would be treated differently from Chelsea Manning.”

Kimberly Guilfoyle too wondered whether Obama made this decision because “he was sympathetic to… the LGBTQ community.”

Gutfeld said that people consider Manning to be a “romantic, heroic figure” and that certainly helped.
