The Weekend Update team did a live RNC special tonight, and right afterwards Chris Matthews conducted quite the, um, awkward interview with the two of them.
There was a lot of banter between Matthews, Colin Jost, and Michael Che––some of it funny, some of it just awkward––but then Matthews told Che, “I have a theory about being African-American.”
Che immediately raised his eyebrows and rested his head on his chin to hear this theory.
Matthews said, “If you come to a Republican convention and you’re a person of color, you’re told not to bunch.” Che ended up agreeing on that point.
From that point on, Che and Jost just kept cracking up at basically everything Matthews said, especially when Matthews asked Che, “Funniest black guy?”
Che and Jost nearly lost it and Che said, “I’m gonna say Cosby so nobody gets mad at you.”
But then Matthews went ahead and said more awkward things.
he ended the interview by revisiting that whole “funniest black guy” thing. It was… um…
