Fusion Hires TV’s First Chief Cannabis Correspondent

Meet Ryan Nerz, television’s first Chief Cannabis Correspondent. Fusion, the cable news network aimed at millennials, announced Thursday that Nerz will contribute reports on America’s marijuana business to the channel’s online and on air platforms. He will host a series of half-hour specials titled The Cannabusiness Report.”

According to Fusion’s press release, Nerz is a Yale-educated journalist who has written for NPR, Esquire, and the History Channel and is the author of Marijuanamerica: One Man’s Quest to Understand America’s Dysfunctional Love Affair with Weed as well as Eat This Book: A Year of Gorging and Glory on the Competitive Eating Circuit.

“Marijuana legalization is an issue that is taking on increasing relevance – politically, economically and culturally – and requires the kind of coverage that only someone with Ryan’s expertise can deliver,” Fusion CEO Isaac Lee said in a statement. “Ryan’s reporting is a great example of how Fusion is uniquely capable of providing news, information, and opinion on topics that matter to millennials, especially in situations where the mainstream media can’t keep up.”

In recent months, CNN has seen success in the field of marijuana-themed programming with a pair of specials hosted by Dr. Sanjay Gupta.
