[WARNING: The following post contains spoilers for the season five finale of Game of Thrones.]
In the less than two weeks since HBO’s Game of Thrones ended its fifth season, there has been a lot of talk about the true fate of Jon Snow, one of the show’s few purely heroic characters, who was last seen bleeding his King’s blood out onto the ground after being repeatedly stabbed by his fellow Night’s Watchmen. While things looked awfully dark, Emilia Clarke is here to give the world some hope.
Asked directly about his character’s future, Kit Harrington said, “I’ve been told I’m dead. I’m dead. I’m not coming back next season.” But Clarke, who, as Khaleesi/Daenerys Targaryen is the potential fire to Snow’s ice, was a little more coy in an interview this week with MTV.
“I can with all honesty say I have no idea what’s happening, I have no idea what’s going to happen,” Clarke said, adding that the showrunners know she’s a bad liar and have therefore kept her in the dark like the rest of us. “If I had to bet I would say it’s like a 50/50 chance.”
“I mean, there’s some helpful people there,” she continued, with a nod to “The Red Woman” Melisandre, “who could bring him on back to life.”
That’s the closest thing we’ve got so far to an indication that Jon Snow might not be dead for good after all.
