Frank Taaffe, a neighbor of Trayvon Martin shooter George Zimmerman, spoke with NBC affiliate WTVJ and stood up for his besieged fellow neighborhood watch captain, lamenting that the mainstream media was rushing to convict him without a trial. “It’s really sad that he’s already been convicted in the public media and has already been sentenced to the gas chamber,” Taaffe observed. “Let’s let justice do its job.”
Taaffe argued that Zimmerman had shot Martin in self-defense, claiming there had been numerous burglaries at his gated community, The Retreat at Twin Lakes. “The stage was already set. It was a perfect storm,” the neighborhood watch captain pointed out.
”It’s a tragic event – we can’t bring that boy back,” Taaffe observed. “I wish we could.”
