Geraldo Rivera: I May Be the Only Person Who Supports Both Trump and Ocasio-Cortez
Fox News’ Geraldo Rivera defended Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Tuesday night, and Martha MacCallum brought him on tonight to press him on why he supports her, bringing up the problems created by socialism.
“I may be the only person in the country who supports both Donald Trump and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Martha,” Rivera said. “In her case the reason I generally am supportive of her is that she has been a tremendous inspiration to young people. She has gotten this whiny millennial generation off the couches in their mothers’ basements and instilled in them the possibility that they maybe could even be more successful than their parents.”
MacCallum shot back, “She’s espousing a system that will take away their power.” She cited recent comments from Thomas Sowell on socialism in America.
Rivera said he feels some “ethnic pride and geographic pride,” but also added, “To be so harsh on her as if the Green New Deal was going to be legislation that is going to go into effect and cows can’t far and airplanes can’t fly, I think that that is a bogus way of looking at her and the class that she represents. This is the most diverse, it is in many ways the youngest, the most integrated Congress we’ve ever had.”
“They also do not have a memory of the Cold War,” MacCallum said. “They don’t seem to believe that Venezuela accurately represents the danger of socialism.”
Rivera again said he likes how Ocasio-Cortez is part of a movement helping young people wake up, saying, “Let them make their mistakes. Let them try to do something.”
