Get Out Your Military Industrial-Strength Tissues: Peter King Not Running for President
Representative Peter King (R-NY) told CNN Wednesday afternoon that he would not become the 15th or whatever candidate for the GOP nomination.
“The reality is as far as money, the fact that I have a full-time job now on the Intelligence and Homeland Security Committees, it’s just not in the cards,” King told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer. “I don’t want to be taking up other people’s time.”
King, a hawk’s hawk who pushes national security and law enforcement issues, is a strong party voice against the GOP’s more conservative element, opposing his colleagues’ shutdown attempts and openly criticizing figures like Senators Rand Paul (R-KY) and Ted Cruz (R-TX).
Sure enough, he indicated that his primary motivation for getting into the 2016 race was to counteract his intra-party rivals.
“They were getting out what they thought was their Republican message, I wanted to counter that,” King said. “I think I’ve been somewhat successful in doing that. There are candidates in the race who are raising national defense issues.”
King said former Governors Jeb Bush and George Pataki, as well as Senator Marco Rubio (R), were his top three endorsement considerations. So now you have an idea as to who’s most likely to start the next Middle East war.
