Gloria Borger: Rick Saccone Bringing in Trump Didn’t Help, POTUS Just ‘Talked About Himself’

During the CNN panels tonight on the PA-18 special election, the question of President Trump‘s impact came up more than once.

David Chalian said tonight, even if it’s just one House race, should give everyone a sense of “how big a Democratic year it might be.”

During the segment, Democrat Conor Lamb was very, very narrowly leading Republican Rick Saccone.

Gloria Borger noted how this race may reflect just “how much” Trump can ask Republicans to do, before bringing up his Saturday rally for Saccone:

“Bringing in the President didn’t help, of course. The President on Saturday night… didn’t talk about his candidate! He talked about himself. Normally when you go in to campaign for someone, you talk about that person most of the time.”

Trump, of course, made headlines for many non-Saccone-related reasons, like insulting Chuck Todd and Oprah Winfrey.
