GMA Beats Today Show During Olympics for First Time

Good Morning America pulled a major ratings upset over the Today Show on Tuesday. While GMA made news in 2013 for beating NBC’s Today in the yearly ratings from the first time since the 1993-94 season, until yesterday no morning show that wasn’t carrying the Olympics had ever beat the one that was.

On Monday morning, which was the first weekday of the 2014 Winter Olympics from Sochi, Russia, the Today Show came out ahead of GMA by 349K viewers. But Tuesday was a different story. The ABC morning show topped NBC by 804K total viewers on the second weekday of the Games.

While Good Morning America and other non-NBC morning shows have been offering some coverage of the Sochi Olympics, they do not have nearly the access or ability to show footage of events the Today does. The fact that ABC managed such a strong win over NBC despite those disadvantages shows just how loyal GMA’s viewers have become.
