‘God Bless the NYPD’: Father of Officer Shot in Bronx Speaks Out on CNN
Joe Dossi, the father of shot NYPD Officer Andrew Dossi, spoke out on CNN tonight with Don Lemon about his son’s recovery and what his son thinks about the current rift between cops and Mayor Bill de Blasio. In earlier interviews, Dossi said his son was upset that de Blasio visited him in the hospital, but he did not repeat those statements on CNN.
He talked at length about his son’s recovery and how shocked he was to learn about the shooting. Lemon brought up Dossi’s years of military service, but then asked Dossi’s father what he thinks about the current issues with the NYPD. In the Garner case, Dossi said it’s an “unfortunate situation” and “maybe things gotta be changed” because selling loose cigarettes isn’t a public danger. And on the current rift between the mayor and the NYPD, Dossi simply said they should be sufficiently supported.
Lemon asked Dossi if his son turned his back to de Blasio at the services for the two slain officers. Dossi doubted it.
He ended the interview by saying, “God bless the NYPD.”
