With the White House reeling from the blockbuster news surrounding Donald Trump Jr.’s meeting with a Russian lawyer to gather dirt on Hillary Clinton from the Russian government, some Republican lawmakers are now expressing criticism and concern over the Trump scion’s actions.
Rep. Bill Flores (R-TX) joined this growing chorus by calling on the president to distance his children from his administration. Speaking to KBTX anchor Noelle Bellow on Wednesday, Flores gave the following advice to President Donald Trump:
“I’m going out on a limb here, but I would say that I think it would be in the President’s best interest if he removed all of his children from the White House. Not only Donald Trump, but Ivanka [Trump] and Jared Kushner.”
It should be noted that Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and senior advisor, also attended the Russian lawyer meeting last year.
“I do find issues with the meeting. It’s a meeting that should not have taken place,” he told Bellow. “I think he thought he was looking out for his father’s best interest.”
While there are GOP lawmakers and pundits noting that this is extremely serious and worrying regarding potential collusion with Russia, others have come to Team Trump’s defense. Rep. Francis Rooney, for one, stated that Trump Jr. wasn’t schooled in politics at the time.
