GOP Rep. Kinzinger Blasts Trump Syria Announcement: They’re ‘Celebrating’ in Moscow and Tehran

President Donald Trump‘s announcement on withdrawing troops from Syria shocked many people today, including Republican lawmakers. One Republican in particular called out the President for his untrue assertion about ISIS in Syria being “defeated.”

Congressman Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) went on Fox News this afternoon and told Dana Perino he was “blown away” by this announcement.

He noted how “there was a president recently that declared victory and brought the troops home––that was Barack Obama in 2011 in Iraq, and we know what happened as a result of that.”

If this really happens, Kinzinger said, it would be a “devastating blow” in the fight against ISIS.

And as he continued to rail against the decision, Kinzinger even went so far as to say this:

“I want to support President Trump in every way I can. But on something like this, you have to look at this and go, ‘This is going to be devastating for foreign policy.’ And I don’t even think we begin to know the ramifications. They’re celebrating in Moscow and in Tehran right now, they’re trembling in Tel Aviv, and in Washington we’re confused, because nobody saw this coming.”
