GOP Rep. Mark Meadows: Democrats ‘Misreading’ Trump If They Think He’s Going to ‘Yield’ in Shutdown Fight

Congressman Mark Meadows (R-NC), chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, said that President Donald Trump is standing firm in his resolve to demand every penny he wants for border security in the ongoing shutdown negotiations.

He spoke to CNN’s Manu Raju this afternoon and said, “I can tell you the president is very firm in his resolve that we need to secure our border and he is encouraging me and others to enter in discussions with Democrats.”

Meadows said Democrats are being hypocrites, given past statements from prominent leaders in their party on border security, while talking about how involved Trump has been in the process.

“I can tell you, if they [Democrats] believe this president is going to yield on this particular issue,” he continued, “they’re misreading him, they’re misreading the American people, because he’s intent on making sure that not only he follows through with this commitment to the American people, but that he makes sure that our borders are secure, there’s less drugs, less terrorists, human trafficking, drug trafficking that takes place.”
