GOP Rep. Michael Grimm to Face Criminal Charges After 2-Year FBI Investigation
According to a breaking report on CNN, Rep. Michael Grimm (R-NY) will face criminal charges for allegedly inappropriate business deals he engaged in while in office. Grimm became the subject of controversy in January after he threatened to assault a reporter with the news network NY1.
“The republican is now expected to face charges as soon as next week over some allegedly shady business dealings,” CNN host Jake Tapper said.
CNN reporter Evan Perez revealed that the FBI has been investigating Grimm for two years and will bring charges against him soon relating to his past business dealings and his first congressional campaign in 2010.
Perez said that Grimm will face charges relating to a restaurant he owned in Manhattan called “Healthalicious.” One of Grimm’s 2010 campaign donors, a former girlfriend, also became the subject of an investigation and criminal charges after making inappropriately structured contributions to Grimm’s congressional bid.
“You’re not a man,” Grimm told the NY1 reporter in January after becoming frustrated with a question about the possible charges. “I could break you in half.” He later threatened to throw the reporter off the balcony of the Capitol Building Rotunda. That reporter declined to press charges against the congressman.
