GOP Reportedly Set to Make Counteroffer to Ford on Hearing, Will Hold Firm That She Testify Before Kavanaugh

Indications suggest that the Senate Judiciary Committee is about to acquiesce to some of Christine Blasey Ford‘s requests for when she testifies next week about how she was supposedly assaulted by Brett Kavanaugh.

CNN reports that Ford will speak to the FBI today about the death threats she’s received since going public with her claims about the aspiring Supreme Court justice. Ford spent the last week asking the FBI to look into her claims ahead of her congressional testimony, though it’s currently unclear whether today’s meeting will touch upon that subject.

Even though Ford has expressed interest in testifying next week, her lawyer has laid out a number of terms and conditions they want met before her appearance happens. According to CNN’s Manu Raju, Congressional Republicans have prepared a counteroffer in which the hearing would be postponed to Wednesday, Ford would testify ahead of Kavanaugh, and an independent lawyer would be brought in to ask both of them questions.

Ford wanted Kavanaugh to speak ahead of her, so it remains to be seen whether she will accept these conditions and whether the presence of an independent counsel will satisfy her demands to ensure the hearing’s fairness.
