Following President Donald Trump‘s Sunday morning threat to shut down the government to secure funding for his southern border wall, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) said he’d rather not play that game.
Speaking to CBS’ Margaret Brennan on Face the Nation just hours after the president tweeted his warning, Johnson was asked for his prediction on whether Washington could be headed for another shutdown.
“Let’s hope not,” he said. “I certainly don’t like playing shutdown politics.”
Trump claims the wall is key to border security, in effect holding hostage governmental progress to get it built.
“I don’t think it would be helpful so let’s try to avoid it,” Johnson added.
