GOP Strategist: Trump a ‘Coward’ For Bashing McRaven While Refusing to Visit U.S. Troops
Republican strategist Evan Siegfried condemned President Donald Trump as a “coward” for his attacks on retired Admiral William McRaven.
Siegfried joined MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle to talk about how the president and Republican National Committee are facing criticism for waging a feud against the former Navy SEAL who oversaw the raid that killed Osama Bin Laden.
“Donald Trump has gotten into fights and insulted the military since day one of his campaign,” Siegfried noted. Ruhle then read out the RNC’s tweet bashing McRaven by claiming he was on Hillary Clinton‘s shortlist for vice president.
“Jennifer Lawrence is on my shortlist for the next girl I ask out but it doesn’t mean she’s involved in that process,” Siegfried joked. “It’s such ridiculousness that the GOP is going and carrying water for this.”
“Why would they?” Ruhle asked. “Why would [RNC chair] Ronna Romney McDaniel do such a thing? I don’t understand what motivates her.”
“Because our constituency is worshipping at the alter of Trump,” Siegfried replied. “And the midterm elections showed that’s it, those are the people who support Republicans.”
He continued: “We have a president who’s going and attacking the military in gross and absolutely disgusting comments, and has repeatedly done so, but is too afraid to go visit our troops overseas in Afghanistan and Iraq? Give me a break. He’s the coward in chief. It’s disgusting.”
“The GOP has lost its soul,” Christine Quinn seconded.
