Gov. Jan Brewer Doubles Down On President Obama: ‘I Thought He Was Pretty Thin-Skinned’

On Thursday, the Morning Joe crew discussed yesterday’s “intense” meeting (and, consequently, perfect photo-op) between President Barack Obama and Arizona Governor Jan Brewer. As we reported last night, the two entered into what reporters described as an “intense” exchange on a tarmac after, according to Brewer, the President expressed that he was “disturbed” by her memoir Scorpions for Breakfast, feeling it had been disrespectful to him.

In the memoir, Brewer described a 2010 discussion about Arizona immigration laws, during which she had felt that Obama “thought he could lecture me, and I would learn at his knee.” The White House has described that passage as “inaccurate,” insisting the meeting had been “cordial.”

Brewer explained to reporters on the tarmac last night that she had merely wanted to welcome the President to Arizona and discuss economic recovery, but “all he wanted to talk about was the book.”

I wanted to be there to welcome him to come and see firsthand what Arizona has done in regards to our economic recovery; he wanted to talk about the book. And I thought that he was pretty thin-skinned.

Wound, meet salt? Panelist Mike Barnicle asked whether the book’s full title had actually been Scorpions for Breakfast: Dining Alone. The slam books have been opened, and the jelly pens are out. Tread carefully!
