Hannity Blasts ‘Left-Wing Website’ Politifact For Giving Him ‘Pants on Fire’ Rating

Fox News host Sean Hannity lashed out at fact-checking website Politifact for giving him a “Pants on Fire” rating for his claim that the U.S. was taking in 250,000 Syrian refugees.

Hannity said that he typically didn’t spend time addressing “stupidity” from “left-wing websites,” but he’d make an exception. “This one time, I’m going to break my rule, I’ll spend my time fact checking the so-called fact checkers.”

“Let me teach you simple addition,” Hannity said, “I was quoting an AP article, entitled ‘Kerry: US to accept 85,000 refugees in 2016, 100,000 in 2017.’ Well, that equals 185,000 right? But that’s not all; according to the same report, the State Department is accepting 70,000 refugees in 2015… that equals 255,000.”

“By the way, for the record, if you watch my TV show, I never said all of the refugees were Syrian,” he said. “I mentioned numerous times they’re coming from Iraq and other countries. Now, refugee migration is a complex topic, I can understand how these left-wing critics could become so easily confused. But this is as simple as one plus one equals two.”

“When you’re only advocating a political agenda like Politifact, I understand guys where you’re coming from. So Politifact, to use your words, liar, liar, your pants are on fire. Get yourself a good calculator.”

Here, for the record, is Hannity’s original statement in context, which certainly does make it seem like he was only talking about the current Syrian and Iraqi refugee crisis:

You see the backlash emerging now in Europe over the refugee problem from Syria and Iraq. The president said he’s going to bring in 250,000 refugees into this country. My fear is, and our national intelligence director James Clapper said, that ISIS in Iraq will infiltrate the refugee population. If that’s the case, I don’t think we can risk taking one refugee in, although we can help probably on a humanitarian basis.
