Sean Hannity took part in a series of rallies for Rep. Ron DeSantis, who’s running for governor of Florida, and Rep. Matt Gaetz, running for re-election in Congress, throughout the state on Monday.
The trio kicked off the one-day tour in Fort Myers, then moved on to the Marriott Waterside Hotel in Tampa. The last event of the day will be in Pensacola. The appearances were not fundraisers, but free town hall-style events.
DeSantis and Gaetz have been regulars on the cable news circuit, providing firmly loyal defenses of President Donald Trump, and smearing the Robert Mueller investigation into his campaign’s ties to Russia. They frequently appear on Hannity’s Fox News show — sometimes together — where they push coherently formulated versions of Trump’s various theories, including “SpyGate.”
Zac Anderson, the political editor for Florida’s Herald Tribune, reported from the Fort Myers event:

Following the speech, Hannity held a Q&A with DeSantis, who is running to succeed Republican incumbent Rick Scott.

As New York Times media reporter Michael Grynbaum pointed out, while the events are not fundraisers, openly campaigning with political candidates is certainly unusual for a cable news host.
Though it might not be unusual for Hannity: Fox News’s top-rated host campaigned for George W. Bush in 2004, and regularly endorses political candidates.
