Hannity to Gates: Why Did You Stay with Obama If You Doubted His Confidence?
Wrapping up his big interview with ex-Defense Secretary Robert Gates Tuesday night, Sean Hannity admitted to Gates that if he had been in the position Gates was in, and he knew that the President of the United States had serious reservations about the Iraq mission, “I don’t know if I could have served under a president that wasn’t convinced he was going to win that war and doing everything possible to win.”
Gates explained that while Obama “did have reservations” about achieving military objectives, he still made decisions that Gates felt comfortable would aid U.S. strategy, and on top of that, Obama had “enough confidence… despite whatever reservations he might have had.”
Obama responded to many of the criticisms in Gates’ book yesterday, praising Gates’ tenure as Secretary of Defense and that “we got the policy right, but that this is hard and it always has been.”
