Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) slipped up when he was discussing some of the elements of the Affordable Care Act that Republicans want reformed or repealed entirely. He called the tax on medical devices contained within the law “stupid” before realizing his mistake and correcting himself.
Reid began by telling reporters that he would accept, and the president would sign, noting less than a “clean CR.” In spite of the fact that many Democrats have supported the repeal of the medical device tax, Reid said he could not support any demands linked to a continuing resolution to fund the government.
He said that linking the CR to the elimination of aspects of the ACA like the medical device tax was not acceptable to Democrats. Apparently blanking on the name of that tax, however, he called it a “stupid tax.”
