‘Has She Earned That?’ Ronan Farrow Asks If Lewinsky Can Take Ownership of Scandal
On the heels of an interview in Vanity Fair, former White House intern Monica Lewinsky and her role in President Bill Clinton’s impeachment has been the subject extensive discussions on cable news. On Thursday, Ronan Farrow observed that Lewinsky seems to be attempting to “take ownership” of the narrative surrounding that scandal. “Has she earned that?” he asked.
“One of the things that interests me here is her really trying to take ownership of the scandal and the place it occupies in her life,” Farrow observed. “Has she earned that?”
“She says she doesn’t want to be that person anymore, but she really never has been anyone else,” MSNBC.com senior editor Beth Fouhy observed. “She is and always will be the Monica Lewinsky of 1998 who led to Bill Clinton’s impeachment. She can’t escape that.”
Farrow and his guests concluded that the Lewinsky scandal has been thoroughly litigated in the press and is unlikely to have a significant impact on former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s future political aspirations.
