Heilemann: Trump ‘At War With Everyone in the World of Justice and Law Enforcement in the Administration’
On The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell on Wednesday night, John Heilemann said that President Trump is “sending a pretty clear signal that what he wants is for Jeff Sessions to resign.”
Heilemann’s comments come in the wake of Trump’s bombshell interview with The New York Times where he criticized Attorney General Jeff Sessions‘ decision to recuse himself in the Russia investigation.
In the opening of the show, O’Donnell questioned how Sessions could even continue to serve as the nation’s “top cop” given the recent comments by the President.
“It is amazing that Jeff Sessions is still in the job,” O’Donnell said. “Any self-respecting Attorney General of the United States would have publicly resigned as soon as the President’s words became public earlier this evening.”
According to Heilemann, the comments about Sessions were just the latest in a series of attacks on someone either in law enforcement or the administration’s own Justice Department.
“It’s also pretty clear to me he’s now at war with everyone in the world of justice and law enforcement in the administration,” said Heilemann. “He is now at war with Jeff Sessions. He is now at war with Jim Comey. He is at war with Andrew McCabe. And he is at war with Robert Mueller. He has attacked all of those people in this extraordinary interview tonight.”
“The last time Donald Trump went to war with an establishment,” he added, “and that was the intelligence establishment, he started that back in December, that did not work out for him well, I don’t think this is gonna work out for him well either.”
