Hillary Clinton: Bill Did ‘Absolutely Not’ Need to Resign Over Monica Lewinsky Scandal
Following widespread upheaval among the public and politicos over the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual assault, Hillary Clinton revisited past controversy surrounding her own husband during the Monica Lewinsky scandal.
Though Bill was impeached from office after lying about his affair with Lewinsky, a White House intern in the 1990s, Clinton defended the former president in an interview on CBS Sunday Morning.
Asked whether he should have resigned, Clinton responded with a confident “absolutely not,” arguing it was not an abuse of authority.
Though network correspondent Tony Dokoupil noted that critics say a relationship defined by consent could not have occurred between a powerful individual like Bill and a subordinate intern, Clinton was quick to point out that Lewinsky “was an adult.”
Shifting topics almost immediately, she said, “But let me ask you this: Where’s the investigation of the current incumbent [president], against whom numerous allegations have been made, and which he dismisses, denies, and ridicules?”
