Hillary Clinton in Iowa: ‘I’m Back!’

“I’m back!” presumptive 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton announced at the 37th Annual Harkin Steak Fry in Des Moines, Iowa Sunday afternoon. Clinton bid adieu to retiring Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) and repeated her recurring political themes of equal opportunity, women’s access to health care and equal pay, and GOP obstinacy.

“Bill and I are on constant grandchild watch; and then of course there’s that other thing,” Clinton said to knowing applause. “It is true: I am thinking about it. But that is not why I’m here today.” (This pleased the audience less.)

Honoring Harkin, Clinton said, “If you need any further evidence for important control of the Senate actually is, look no further than Tom’s efforts to help us pass the Global Treaty on the Rights of People with Disabilities.” This echoed Harkin’s call for Iowans to elect his Democratic candidate Bruce Bailey over GOP opponent Joni Ernst.
