When asked about releasing the transcripts of her paid Wall Street speeches during CNN’s Democratic town hall Tuesday, presidential candidate Hillary Clinton claimed that she was the victim of a double standard.
Clinton has previously said she would release the transcripts of her paid speeches “if everyone else does.” Earlier in the town hall, Clinton’s rival Bernie Sanders agreed to release transcripts of his paid speeches to Wall Street. “I am happy to release all of my pages to Wall Street. Here it is, Chris — there ain’t none. I don’t do that,” he said.
But when pressed by host Chris Cuomo, Clinton said she wanted Republicans to release their transcripts as well, “because we know they have made a lot of speeches.” Instead, she gave an answer talking about her record of taking on Wall Street.
“All the more reason to remove this issue,” Cuomo said. “You know not everybody is not going to bring up their transcripts. There will be a hundred reasons why.”
“Why is there one standard for me and not for everybody else, Chris?” she responded to applause.
