Last night broke the tragic news that 19 members of a 20-man firefighting unit perished in the wildfire that is currently engulfing part of Yarnell, Ariz.
MSNBC Morning Joe fill-in host Katty Kay revealed to the audience that before perishing amongst the flames, the firefighters were attempting to pitch fire-resistant tents to protect them from the growing fireball.
Co-host Mike Barnicle added that they had also tried to dig ditches and cover themselves with fireproof materials, but were overwhelmed by the smoke and flame.
The Arizona wildfires were believed to have started when lightning struck the dry ground. Thus far, the flame is burning with zero containment and has reportedly grown past 2,000 acres in scope.
