The House of Representatives erupted into chaos tonight after Speaker Paul Ryan reconvened to call a vote as Democrats continued their sit-in.
House Democrats (and a few Senate colleagues) have been holding the sit-in all day to demand votes on gun control legislation. Ryan called the House session to order tonight, and he called for members to conduct themselves in a way “that respects positively on the dignity and the decorum of this house.”
Democrats proceeded to protest and chant “No Bill, No Break!” (This has been the top trend on Twitter for a while today.)
The House ended up getting on with regular business as Democrats continued to protest, with a bunch of standard votes on the docket.
House Democrats continued to chant and shout “Shame!” and even sang “We Shall Overcome.”
