Howard Kurtz Hits Back at Fox Talent Denouncing Fox News: ‘What Are These Guys Giving Up?’
On MediaBuzz on Sunday, host Howard Kurtz took on the Fox Entertainment personalities who have recently attacked the Fox News Channel, a list of stars that includes Modern Family creator Steven Levitan and Seth MacFarlane, creator of Family Guy and The Orville.
Speaking with Sara Fischer, a media reporter for Axios, Kurtz mentioned the potential Disney merger before bringing up the criticisms.
“[Levitan] says he’s disgusted to work for a company that’s associated with Fox News,” said Kurtz, “Seth MacFarlane, creator of Family Guy, says he’s embarrassed to work for 21st Century Fox.” He also read a tweet from director Judd Apatow attacking Fox News.
“Any time Hollywood elite comes out and they take some issue against Trump policies or etc.,” said Fischer, “it further creates that divide between the Hollywood elitism versus the standard every day people that’s been sort of the the hallmark of the Trump presidency.”
That’s when Kurtz cut right to the chase about the tweeted criticisms from the powerful stars in response to commentary from hosts like Tucker Carlson and Laura Ingraham, particularly on immigration.
“And by the way, what are these guys giving up?” he asked. “They’re not quitting. They don’t seem to be giving up any money. I mean, they’re using their platforms, and they have every right to speak out.”
“But they’re blaming the company because some people – and it’s almost always opinion people,’ he added, “have said things about the immigration controversy on Fox News that they don’t agree with.”
Kurtz also pointed out other tweets from Judd Apatow, calling back to the opening discussion about Peter Fonda‘s tweets, where Apatow mentions Hitler and Nazis when discussing Trump and his supporters.
MacFarlane and others spoke out after commentary from hosts like Tucker Carlson and Laura Ingraham on the border crisis and the media.
