Howard Kurtz: Scarborough ‘Got an Angry Call’ From Trump Over Morning Joe Coverage

Fox News host Howard Kurtz appeared on Joe Piscopo’s AM 970 The Answer radio show Monday morning to promote his new book on the great war between Donald Trump and the media, and dished about Morning Joe’s soured relationship with the president.

Kurtz’s book, Media Madness: Donald Trump, the Press, and the War over the Truth, takes an inside look at the turbulent relationship between Trump and Morning Joe hosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough, which went from friendly during the 2016 campaign to shockingly bitter after the businessman became president.

Piscopo asked Kurtz about how the relationship went south (at around 4:40), and the MediaBuzz host explained that after the election, Joe & Mika “started going after [Trump] really hard.”

“There was a falling out after the election, they went to Mar-a-Lago, they went to the White House,” he said of the hosts’ trips to Trump’s residences. “There were attempts to kiss and make up, but that didn’t last very long.”

“The next time Scarborough went on the air and criticized Trump — this had to do with Stephen Miller and immigration,” Kurtz continued, “he got an angry call from the president saying: ‘I invite you over and this is what you do? You attack me? You have to prove you’re your own man at MSNBC?'”

Kurtz pointed out that while Trump says he doesn’t watch Morning Joe, “I think sometimes he does, because he tweets about it occasionally.”

He then added that Joe & Mika have confessed to him that “they legitimately think that [Trump] is not a good president, but they realize that sometimes they go over the top in their criticisms.”

Kurtz also appeared on Morning Joe on Monday to talk about his book — and faced a grilling from Brzezinski over his claims about Trump and the media.
