Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee offered some (gentle) chiding for Donald Trump Monday morning, suggesting that the president was not helping his cause with the tweets and charged rhetoric.
“Sometimes he steps on his own successes by giving people something to talk about other than his record when he tweets something that is a distraction,” said Huckabee.
The reminder came amid a segment in which the ex-governor and former Fox News host lavished praise on Trump, mainly citing positive economic numbers.
“Really, most of his eight months in office have been far more positive,” Huckabee told Fox Business host Stuart Varney. “You’ve got job numbers are as high as they’ve been since 2007. You’ve got the record stock market blowing and going. Businesses are reinvesting. Consumer confidence is at the highest it’s been in twelve years.”
The former presidential candidate focused on touting the economic numbers that he believes are being overlooked in a political media climate that appears to be mostly hostile to the President.
“When you start looking at a lot of the objective realities of where the country is – he’s having a good run. But you never would know it if all you did was read the New York Times, the Washington Post and watch some of the other networks.”
