Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee assured Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski Monday that he never hit his mother with a hammer or stabbed anybody, drawing sharp contrast with his Republican rival Ben Carson.
“So just curious, I mentioned Ben Carson because we’ve focused a lot on him this morning and some of the discrepancies that have come out of his memoir,” Brzezinski began, asking Huckabee if the media would find similar “voids and holes” in his own work if the books he’s “written were put under the same scrutiny.”
Huckabee told Brzezinki that he’s sure the 12 books he’s written have “all been put under incredible scrutiny,” adding that it’s something you expect if you run for office. “You’re going to be put through the sausage grinder,” Huckabee said.
“I’m not going to get into arguing what Ben did and didn’t do,” Huckabee said. “But the one thing that I heard him say that I was taken aback — he said was that people have been looking into his personal life and they are going after him. I’m thinking, ‘Pal, you ain’t seen nothing yet.'”
“They have not yet come after your kids and the rest of your family, and they will,” Huckabee said, noting that he’s been through the “brutal process” for 26 years.
“But I will go on record today and tell you this, Mika, I never hit my mother with a hammer and I never stabbed anybody,” Huckabee said. “Never wrote about it either. So there you go. At least I’m out there on the record for that.”
“Check,” Brzezinski replied.
