‘I’m Already Damaged’: Jesse Ventura Speaks Out on Lawsuit Victory

Former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura appeared on CBS This Morning today to defend his victorious lawsuit against the late Navy SEAL Chris Kyle and face criticisms over his decision to keep the suit going after Kyle died, essentially making Kyle’s widow the target of his suit. Ventura insisted he couldn’t let this defamation stand, because what Kyle accused him of amounted to “treason” had Ventura actually said it. And he couldn’t abide letting that stand.

Charlie Rose and Gayle King asked Ventura about his treatment in the court of public opinion. Ventura said, “If seeking the truth damages you, then we live in a pretty sorry world, don’t we?”

He lamented, “I’m already damaged. I can’t go to a SEAL reunion anymore. That was the one place where I always felt safe. I can’t go there anymore, I’d be looking over my shoulder now wondering who’s going to go after me next.”

As for the $1.8 million he was awarded in court, Ventura said he’s going to use it to pay his lawyers. He explained that unlike Kyle’s widow, who had attorney’s fees covered by insurance, he had to pay out of his own pocket.
