Ingraham Implores GOP: Stop Acting Like You Lost!
Conservative radio host Laura Ingraham encouraged the GOP’s far-right flank in its move against reelecting John Boehner (R-OH) to Speaker of the House Tuesday morning, arguing that the GOP majority wasn’t elected to kowtow to President Barack Obama.
“You have to hand it to Obama,” Ingraham said. “I don’t agree with anything he’s doing. But in defeat, he acts like he won. I think the concern for many of us looking at the Republican Party is in victory, they act like they lost. ‘Oh, my gosh, we have to move toward Obama!’ Obama is gone, okay? If i were a Republican congressman, I would act on behalf of the American people.”
Representatives Ted Yoho (R-FL) and Louie Gohmert (R-TX) are challenging Boehner, who can only afford to lose 29 votes in the first round and retain his crown. In four years as speaker Boehner has at times struggled to control his right-wing caucus, which has pushed him into debt ceiling brinksmanship and a government shutdown.
