Iowa Caucus Results: Mitt Romney Beats Rick Santorum By Eight Votes

In the closest race in Iowa caucus history, Mitt Romney eked out an eight-vote victory over Rick Santorum, with Rep. Ron Paul in third place followed by Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry, and Rep. Michele Bachmann rounding out the top.

Here are the full results, with 100% of counties reporting (via Politico):

M.Romney 24.5%
R.Santorum 24.5%
R. Paul 21.4%
N. Gingrich 13.3%
R. Perry 10.3%
M. Bachmann 5.0%

The numerical difference between Romney and Santorum? Eight votes (30,015 to 30,007).

In the aftermath of this race, Rep. Michele Bachmann refused to say that she was entirely stepping out, but Gov. Rick Perry did say that he was heading back to Texas tomorrow to “reassess” his campaign, which many have taken for code that he is stepping out of the campaign. Another potential game changer? Sen. John McCain, it has been reported, is expected to endorse Romney tomorrow.
