Is Wolf Blitzer about to go to a permanent commercial break?
That’s what a CNN insider is claiming to the New York Daily News.
“Wolf is going to be gradually phased out and replaced with a younger, hipper host,” the source claimed. “The decision has been made that people want to look at beautiful people, and although Wolf is no beast, they’re thinking younger.”
Mediaite reached out to a CNN spokeswoman, who told us the following:
“The ‘CNN insider’ must not be watching CNN air. Wolf has been anchoring additional hours as of late.”
NY Daily News’ insider suggested the move is part of a beauty contest.
“Anderson Cooper is the networks’ poster child for a reason: He is super-cute and charming,” the source said. “You know the on-air talent is scared when you see Piers Morgan eating a salad at lunch. If he is spotted at the gym, then you know the most trusted name in news will also be the prettiest.”
While CNN has struggled with ratings in the past few years, it does still bring in viewers for breaking news stories like the Boston Marathon bombings. However, multiple high-profile figures have left the channel in the past year.
