‘It Has Always Been About You’: Obama Speaks to Staff and Supporters After Inauguration
Following Donald Trump’s inauguration as the 45th President of the United States, former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama greeted their staff and supporters at Joint Base Andrews.
After receiving a huge round of applause while hugging his wife, Barack Obama began his speech with a bit of a joke. “Michelle and I have been milking this goodbye thing,” he said to the crowd.
He then went on to talk about how his supporters joined together to help make the change they believed in, discussing how they organized, knocked on doors and made phone calls. “You talked to your parents who didn’t know how to pronounce Barack Obama,” he added.
Praising those who worked for him to help him get elected, he highlighted how they were what his presidency was all about.
“We have been the face, sometimes the voice, out front on the TV screen or in front of the microphone, but this has never been about us,” Obama exclaimed. “It has always been about you.”
