‘It’s Almost Impossible to Pick a Headline’: Peter Alexander Reflects on Trump’s Airing of Grievances
Peter Alexander spoke with Katy Tur after President Trump‘s barn-burning press conference earlier today, and he acknowledged that it would be a challenge to properly address how many topics came out of it.
Trump’s press conference was set up to formally announce his new pick for Labor Secretary, Alexander Acosta, though it turned into a firestorm where Trump repeatedly slammed the media, his political opponents, and everyone in between. Acosta was among those who got caught up in the contentiousness, and when the event ended, he noted that there was so much in Trump’s statements that it was difficult to know where to start.
“The bottom line here…is that it’s almost impossible to pick a headline there were so many,” Alexander said. He went on to reflect on the question he asked Trump, along with the fact that the president generated new media developments over Michael Flynn, leaks to the press, and many other subjects.
“We’re going to have to boil down everything he said over the course of this day,” Alexander said. “In simple terms, this is a guy who was the author of The Art of the Deal, but what he proved again today is he may as well authored The Art of the Deflection, focusing on so many other topics other than the ones about which Americans are focused on right now.”
