Jake Tapper: Heather Heyer’s Mother Rebuking Trump Is a ‘Disaster’ For the White House
The mother of slain Charlottesville counter-protester Heather Heyer, Susan Bro, appeared on Good Morning America this morning and said that she wouldn’t speak to President Donald Trump if he called her due to the fact that he equated her daughter to white supremacists. She also revealed that the White House attempted to call her while she was attending Heyer’s funeral.
During a panel discussion on CNN’s The Lead today, host Jake Tapper remarked that this was disastrous for this administration and wanted to know what they planned on doing to repair it.
“This is a disaster,” Tapper exclaimed. “And maybe in any other White House this would be the biggest story of the day, but it’s the Trump White House, so it’s not.”
Hours before Tapper’s broadcast, it was announced that White House chief strategist Steve Bannon was ousted.
“First of all, the sheer incompetence, calling during the funeral,” the anchor continued. “Second of all, a grieving mother, obviously offended by what President Trump said. It’s awful.”
He then asked CNN reporter Kaitlan Collins if the White House was trying to fix this, with Collins noting that she hadn’t heard back from the White House on that and that she’s been asking since Saturday if they’ve reached out to Bro.
“What it really shows, they haven’t even called the mother of the girl who was killed,” she concluded after pointing out that the president has yet to travel to Charlottesville.
