CNN’s Jake Tapper kicked off his week by poking fun at Donald Trump‘s typo-ridden proclamations of innocence in Robert Mueller‘s investigation.
The president has been getting a ton of mockery for his latest tweets saying there’s no “smocking gun” to prove that he colluded with Russia. Monday on The Lead, Tapper got in on the fun right away.
“Smock ’em if you got ’em,” the CNN anchor said, dryly.
Tapper, in his monologue, broke down Trump’s effort to discredit Mueller and the Federal investigators looking into the president’s connections with Russia and possible obstruction of justice. Questions have been surfacing about whether Trump is legally vulnerable after the SDNY determined that he ordered his former personal attorney, Michael Cohen, to break campaign finance law by paying hush money to Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal.
“The president has been trying to spin the newly released memos by Mueller and Federal prosecutors by falsely claiming this all ‘totally clears the president,'” Tapper observed. “The truth is the exact opposite. Mueller and prosecutors seem to be providing us with clues as to where this all might be headed with key information about Individual One.”
Tapper added, “It is hard to see how the Southern District of New York implicating the president in the commission of two felonies clears him in any sense of the words.”
