Jake Tapper Takes on Trump’s Latest Russia Reversal: He Has Little Regard For Credibility of Own Claims
CNN’s Jake Tapper today called out President Donald Trump‘s latest reversal on whether there actually is Russian election meddling.
Last week the President did not stick up for U.S. intel agencies and their assessment on Russian meddling during his presser with Vladimir Putin. The White House tried to clean up that whole thing, but as Tapper pointed out, Trump was back to decrying the “big hoax” this weekend.
And how Trump is tweeting that he believes Russia is continuing to meddle… to help the Democrats:
I’m very concerned that Russia will be fighting very hard to have an impact on the upcoming Election. Based on the fact that no President has been tougher on Russia than me, they will be pushing very hard for the Democrats. They definitely don’t want Trump!

As Tapper asked, “Has there ever been a president with so little apparent regard for the credibility of his own national security announcements?”
He said the president’s declaration to people to “remember what you’re seeing and what you’re reading is not what’s happening” seems to be “a clear and concise mission statement of sorts for the Trump presidency,” even on matters of U.S. security.
Tapper pointed to very legitimate concerns raised about Russian meddling, as well as Putin telling the world he supported Trump during the election, before concluding with this:
“But again, if one subscribes to this brand-new presidential ethos, you won’t pay any attention to any of this or worry or fret but, ‘Remember what you’re seeing and what you’re reading is not what’s happening.’ And for the rest of you who want to understand what you’re seeing and reading and who understand this is actually all happening, thanks for watching.”
