CNN’s Jake Tapper spoke with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer about the state of the Democrats party the day of their big announcement on #ABetterDeal.
This unveiling of the Democrats’ big agenda comes on the heels of Schumer taking a few shots at Hillary Clinton, saying, “When you lose to somebody who has 40 percent popularity, you don’t blame other things — Comey, Russia — you blame yourself.”
Schumer told Tapper today that it’s not just about 2016 and “the blame goes all around” for voters not completely understanding what it is the Democrats stand for.
Tapper brought up a recent poll backing up that assessment and bluntly asked, “Do you think that your party is currently making the same mistakes Hillary Clinton might have made during the campaign?”
Schumer declined to “point fingers” at Clinton or anyone else, instead focusing on the economic message he and other Democratic leaders unveiled today.
Tapper did ask him if he’s worried about people in his party being too focused on Russia, citing Tim Kaine‘s suggestion of potential treason, but Schumer said that Democrats are spending most of their time on issues like health care.
Tapper also pressed him on health care and the tragic case of Charlie Gard, and you can watch in the full segment above, via CNN.
