Jake Tapper to Seth Meyers: Trump Has Been Trying to ‘Delegitimize’ CNN

CNN’s Jake Tapper spoke with Seth Meyers last night about President-elect Donald Trump‘s attacks on his network since their big report on an intel briefing last week.

CNN reported Trump was briefed on a 2-page synopsis of unverified allegations against him, and the following day Trump got into a spat with Jim Acosta and called CNN “fake news.” Tapper in particular pushed back against attempts from Team Trump to conflate that report with BuzzFeed’s decision to publish that dossier.

Meyers asked Tapper, “Do you feel as though you’re under attack being a member of the press right now?”

Tapper said he has been yelled at before by presidents and press secretaries on both sides, but he also observed, “I’ve never seen the effort to delegitimize an organization for a story that you don’t like that has been proven.”

He said the CNN report has been corroborated and proven true and Trump was “obviously trying to get us to stop focusing on the story and just to discredit all of us.”

Meyers brought up the issues this raises about Trump’s relationship with the press going forward. Tapper did note that time when the Obama White House was trying to discredit all of Fox News and he challenged them on that.
